Quotes about children

Quotes about Children

“As clear as it has become that all young people have the capacity for
positive development, resilience research should never be used to justify
social and political inaction on the grounds that, somehow, “Most kids
make it.” In the face of growing global poverty, abuse, violence, and other
threats to children’s development, the somehow can no longer depend
on the luck of the draw. Increasingly, healthy youth development must
depend on deliberate policies, practices, and interventions designed to
provide young people with developmental supports and opportunities. As
we are learning, young people are resilient, but they are not invincible.”
                                                                      Wested, 2004
I like this quote from our Week 8 readings, the italics are mine.  It gives us hope that children are able to cope with many serious conditions in their young lives, but they should not be expected to go through it alone.  Every precaution must be taken and plans must be made to ensure that, when adversity comes as it does in every life, children will come out on the other side and stronger for it.

“Whatever else good teaching is, it is teaching in which our hearts and minds are fully engaged in connecting with children’s hearts and minds.  This is what I call “teaching in the key of life.”
 Mimi Brodsky Chenfeld
I love this quote from a wonderful educator and artist in the schools who lives right here in Central Ohio.  I have been privileged to meet her on several occasions.  She has been in the field for over 50 years and never loses her enthusiasm for children and life.  When I grow up I want to be just like her!  Check out her books for a little inspiration on this holiday break from Walden.
May you all have a blessed Holiday season!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Professor Myers and all of my new found friends in Early Childhood 6005!  It has been a great start to my very first semester at Walden and I have all of you to thank for it!  I couldn't be happier with the inspiring and energizing experience I have had so far!  Best of luck to everyone in the future and I pray our paths cross again!

One of my favorite books is "In a People House" by Dr. Seuss.  It is the first book I ever learned to read when I was approximately 4 years old.  I took it everywhere with me and read it to my Grandmas, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.  I have realized that I remember a lot more details of my childhood than most people.  I don't know if I just remember, or if working with young children helps me remember.  I only know that I consider these memories a gift.  I believe they help me to understand and empathize with children in a deeper way.

I remember what it was like to miss my parents when I was at school, at summer camp or when staying with relatives.  I have been able to share my stories of missing people with children and been able to comfort them in that way.
My profile picture shows me having fun with my co-teachers, Stacey, Sarah and Kathy.  Does anyone know what we are doing?
One of my favorite quotes is from the Children's Defense Fund.

"Dear Lord, Be good to me, the sea is so wide and my boat is so small.

This quote reminds me of the little people we, as Early Childhood professionals, have the privilege of serving.  It is one of my passions to do everything I can to protect children physically, mentally and spiritually.  Our actions and words toward children make a difference from the very start.
