Inspiration and Motivation from the Field

It was "the most joyful experience where I felt that everything in me was being called on to teach and also it was very rewarding. It made me feel whole, it made me feel creative."  It became "my passion to make sure that all children were taught in environments and in ways that truly nurtured their ability to grow and to develop to their fullest ability."  Louise Derman-Sparks, Professor Emeritus, Pacific Oaks College, CA

This could be a quote from me!

Marcy Whitebook describes herself as, "a deeply immersed player in the Child care compensation movement."  She sums up her passion and motivation by saying, "My primary intention has been to reflect upon our past efforts with an eye to informing the work that remains to be done- ensuring that child care teachers and providers receive the compensation, support and respect that they, and the children and families in their care deserve."

She is my hero!

From Lilian Katz:

"Curriculum should help children make deeper and fuller understanding of their own experience."

"Early childhood educators are pressured to get children "ready" for school, ready to "succeed" in school and ready to perform well on tests of academic skills.  All of these goals and outcomes are frequently cited as the desireable outcomes or end-products of the curriculum."

It is my belief that education should prepare children for life, not just school.  In my opinion all education should occur according to the practices of Early childhood education.
