Surely all God’s people…like to play.

In the picture above you see 6 Girl Scouts, three sets of mothers and their daughters. We are outdoors at Hocking Hills State Park. We have gone here together for the last six years to hike, cook outdoors, collect interesting sticks and rocks, sing together around the campfire and look up at the stars. In my life, the more things change, the more they stay the same. This type of outdoor activity has always been my favored way to both play and learn.
These are a few of my favorite things from when I was a child:

These toys are all open-ended and I used them with all the imagination in my soul! Yes, my doll house was homemade out of cardboard boxes. I spent many hours wallpapering the rooms and gathering miniature items to place inside.
My wish for today's children is that they would have many hours of extended play time. There is so much talk nowadays about quality time, but really it is quantity time that allows creativity to come to its fullness and relationships to develop to their potential.

When children pretend, they’re using their imaginations to move beyond the bounds of reality. A stick can be a magic wand. A sock can be a puppet. A small child can be a superhero.

Creative play is like a spring that bubbles up from deep within a child.
